Where can two different passports travel together?

If you and your travel companions hold different passports, the hardest part of planning isn’t picking a vibe — it’s finding somewhere everyone can actually enter. A destination that’s visa-free for one passport can mean an embassy appointment and weeks of paperwork for another. Here’s how to think about it.

Start from the strictest passport, not the strongest

The classic mistake is planning around the most powerful passport in the group. Instead, look at the passport with the fewest visa-free options and build outward from there — any destination that works for it will usually work for everyone else.

Know the four “easy entry” categories

Not every visa is a hassle. In rough order of convenience:

  • Visa-free — just show up with a valid passport.
  • eTA / ESTA — a quick online authorisation (minutes to a couple of days).
  • eVisa — applied for online, approved by email in a few days.
  • Visa on arrival — issued at the airport; bring the fee and documents.

Anything requiring an embassy appointment is where trips fall apart for mixed groups — those need weeks of lead time and aren’t guaranteed.

Common sweet spots for mixed-passport groups

Destinations with broad visa-free or visa-on-arrival access — think much of Southeast Asia, parts of the Caribbean and Latin America, Turkey, Morocco, and the UAE — tend to be friendly to a wide range of passports. But it always depends on the specific passports in your group, so check each pair.

You can look up any passport-and-destination combination on our free visa checker — it tells you the visa type, fee, max stay, and links to the official application.

Let the group planning happen automatically

Rather than checking every passport against every country by hand, Voyalix does it for you: enter everyone’s passports and it only suggests destinations the whole group can enter, with the visa status for each traveler shown on the plan.
